‘We were in the fortunate position of not being in a chain so had no need to rush our property search. But it was a challenge being based in London searching for property 130 miles away in Norfolk. So after more than a year of searching estate agent windows and websites, and not seeing anything which matched our requirements, a friend recommended Jamie to us. We were so glad we made that call.
Jamie was brilliant from the moment we met him. He listened carefully and understood our brief immediately. We were looking for a house we could ‘put our mark on’, with a decent sized garden, close to the coast and within easy reach of good schools for our boys. We were keen to bring our boys up in the country and we had been wishing to make the move for years.
Jamie had a good feel for the market and we immediately knew that he had our best interests at heart. Over a couple of weekends, Jamie had showed us several houses. He didn’t try and sell us any old house, he knew what was important to us, and each viewing was carefully considered. As we drove by the house we are now living in, which looked perfect, Jamie said he knew the owners. He made an approach on our behalf and they said they were about to put the house on the market!
We decided to make an initial offer which wasn’t accepted. Jamie then led the subsequent negotiations and held our hands throughout the entire process. From surveyors to solicitors he ensured we had a great team that helped us secure our dream home.
It’s a big financial and emotional investment and we really valued his professionalism and advice. It was like having a supportive friend guiding us through the process. He is such a likeable and genuine person, and also very discreet.’
Jamie greeted us at the house on moving day with a bottle of champagne and a very helpful ‘How to get started in Norfolk’ guide he’d compiled containing the names of gardeners, plumbers, window cleaners and more.
The property itself was a big renovation project – from the roof down. The oldest part of the house dates back to the 1500s and all of the wiring, plumbing and insulation had to be updated. We have redecorated in a modern style peppered with old family furniture and colourful paint choices. It’s not your classic country house, more of an eclectic mix.
It has been an amazing change in lifestyle for all of us. Our children loved it immediately and are mostly found running around in the garden, no matter what the weather – it has completely changed the way they play. We are all much more active, happy and healthy and enjoy being closer to nature. The coast is a few miles away and we are out walking, biking, swimming or just picnicking at every opportunity.
We absolutely adore where we are now and wouldn’t swap it for the world. It has been a labour of love but it was worth it to create our dream home. We hope it will be our family home for generations to come.
I would highly recommend Jamie and already have. If you’re looking for a one-off house in Norfolk with land, there’s not much on the open market. But Jamie has amazing connections and the right experience to find the home that’s just right for you.
